==================================
The last episode introduced the HKSKH St. Mary’s Church.. Its appearance is full of traditional Chinese architectural style, which is different from other churches. In this episode, we will continue to introduce another church with a Chinese-style appearance, which is the HKSKH Holy Trinity Cathedral.
HKSKH Holy Trinity Cathedral, located on Ma Tau Chung Road, was built in 1936 and is now rated as a Grade II historic building. In addition to the main building itself being full of Chinese characteristics, there are also drum towers and bell towers on both sides of the main building. The drum tower and bell tower are most reminiscent of the evening drums and morning bells of the temple. Their existence has greatly strengthened the Chinese architectural style of HKSKH Holy Trinity Cathedral.

As a place where Chinese and Western cultures meet, it is no surprise that there are churches. However, the church we visited in this episode definitely doesn’t look like a traditional church from the outside, and has no Western style at all. On the contrary, the entire building is made of red bricks and green tiles, which is absolutely Chinese style. Without any introduction, you would think it was a Chinese temple.
This church is HKSKH St. Mary’s Church, built in 1936 and now listed as a Grade I historic building in Hong Kong.
Let’s go and see this unique church.

Located on Hong Kong Island, Wanchai was formerly known as Lower Wan, and its history can be traced back to the early 19th century. At that time, Wanchai was still a small fishing village. After years of development, it has gradually turned into a prosperous business district. However, in Wanchai, where there are many commercial buildings, there are still some traditional Chinese temples. These unique traditional buildings are quietly hidden among the new buildings. MTR 佐敦の A 出口から上海街に向かい、上海街 618 街で終わり、その間に廟街牌樓、榕樹頭公園、台所用品を販売するさまざまな店、紅磚屋などを通りました。
Shanghai Street, spanning four areas of the Kowloon Peninsula, starts from Jordan, passes through Yau Ma Tei, Mong Kok, and finally reaches Prince Edward. It was originally called Station Street, because there was a street with the same name on Hong Kong Island at that time, so the Hong Kong government rename the street on the Kowloon side to Shanghai Street in the early 20th century.
Shanghai Street has a history of hundreds of years. With the passage of time, different road sections have developed slowly, each gathering different shops, and began to form areas with different characteristics. However, the same thing is that in different blocks, you can still find Various old shops or old buildings, from which you can see the appearance of old Hong Kong.
We started from Exit A of MTR Jordan to Shanghai Street, and ended at 618 Shanghai Street. During the period, we passed the archway in Temple Street, Yau Ma Tei Community Centre Rest Garden, various shops selling kitchen utensils, The Red Brick Building…etc.

Yu Lan Festival which held by 30 Houses, actually mentioned in the previous episodes, the venue is on Staunton Street opposite PMQ, and the day is more special, it is on the 24th of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, not the traditional On the 14th day of the seventh lunar month when the gate of hell is open.
In the past two years, due to the epidemic, the Yu Lan Festival has been suspended, so we were unable to shoot relevant clips, but recently the editorial department found some old clips, which were filmed in 2016. We decided to share it with the readers.
In the clip, you can see that the Yu Lan Festival was held on Staunton Street opposite the PMQ. There were no road closures during the period, and cars could pass by as usual. The Soho district of Staunton Street is a highly westernized area in Hong Kong. There are many bars and restaurants nearby. It is a place where many foreign tourists or foreigners living in Hong Kong like to spend time. It feels very good to hold the Yu Lan Festival here. In particular, I saw Taoist priests chanting sutras, neighbors making treasures and burning clothes, foreign tourists stopping to watch out of curiosity, and even taking pictures with their cameras. The two cultures of Chinese and the Western are perfectly integrated, which is peculiar but not contradictory. This kind of The miscellaneous situation of Chinese and foreign countries is a major feature of Hong Kong.
Thanks for watching
